Description

On behalf of the Javacya Arts Conservatory Education Fund, young Julian White, ll, affectionately known as "Julian 2," will perform a live benefit concert. He will perform alongside his teacher and Director of The Count Basie Orchestra, renowned trumpeter Scotty Barnhart, and special guest, Darryl Tookes. 

 

-Julian White, II is the 16-year-old son of esteemed music educators extraordinaire, Dr. Julian, Sr. and Dennine White. Julian's dad is the former Chair of the Florida A & M University (FAMU) Department of Music and former Director of the internationally regarded, Marching 100. His mother, Dennine, is a professor of flute studies in the Department of Music at FAMU. Julian 2  is a Junior at Leon High School, where he is a member of the marching and symphonic band, Leon Symphony Orchestra, and a 2021 member of the Florida All-State Band. Additionally, Julian is a 2020 Big Bend All-District Honor Band member, a superior rating recipient in the Florida Bandmasters Association Solo and Ensemble Performance Assessment (District and State).  An honor reserved for a graduating senior, while in eighth-grade, Julian was named Most Outstanding Band Student at Maclay College Preparatory School. At the age of 4, he began violin studies with Patrice Floyd and piano with Margaret Franklin. He later studied piano at Stubbs Music Center. Julian's hobbies include video games and listening to classical music and movie soundtracks.

Scotty Barnhart is one of the great jazz trumpet virtuosos in modern society. He has performed with  Cab Calloway, Joe Williams, Rosemary Clooney, Tony Bennett, and many more. Leading his quintet at Jazz festivals and night clubs, musicians and critics alike have declared him as a new and original voice in the world of Jazz. On the faculty of Florida State University and a published author, Mr. Barnhart resides in Los Angeles, California, and Tallahassee, Florida. William Terrell "Scotty" Barnhart was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 27, 1964. His earliest exposure to music was hearing his mother sing in the choir at Atlanta's historic Ebenezer Baptist Church where he was christened by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and baptized by Dr. King, Sr. In addition to singing in the youth choir, Scotty began playing trumpet solos during regular Sunday morning worship services and special occasions. The King family presented him with a music scholarship in honor of the mother of Dr. King, Jr., The Alberta Williams King Scholarship for Music The Count Basie Scholarship from the estate of William "Count" Basie. He obtained a B.S. Degree in Music Education from Florida A & M University and was an active member of the music fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi and all music ensembles, including the world-renowned Marching 100.
